Update from County Councillor Councillor Helen Adkins and Town Councillor Jojo Norris
Issues in Sydenham are our top priority. We already have the bollards in place to prevent dangerous parking outside St Anthony’s School. Planters on the bridge will be following soon. Pupil/ pedestrian safety measures are also being rolled out for Sydenham Primary School and Campion School this and next year. All these improvements were pushed through by Matt Western MP and Jojo Norris.
Traffic calming is a big issue for Gainsborough Drive and Chesterton Drive/St Fremund Way. Traffic calming measures for St Fremund Way should be in place soon. These are paid for from Matt Western’s special
budget when he was your County Councillor. In the next financial year traffic calming measures will be implemented along the whole of Gainsborough Drive. This is being paid for out of your new County Councillor Helen Adkins’ special budget. With the expansion of Campion, we should be able to prioritise pupil safety and install a pedestrian crossing near Asda.
Asda are also now looking at ways pedestrian safety can be improved across their car park entrance. Jojo has been pushing for this. Helen is installing bollards along Sydenham Drive, in-front of Fallow Hill, to prevent pavement parking. Jojo and Helen are also hoping to upgrade the steps at Sydenham Shops and install a handrail. This will also be paid for out of Helen’s special budget. The shops are well overdue for a spruce up. Plans are afoot to provide new bins and fresh paintwork. The new planting on Sydenham roundabout is a great improvement. Again pushed for by your local Councillors. Some of the new planting is struggling in the heat but it is being regularly watered by the council!
